Local SEO Services in Europe

Europe is not one local search market. It is dozens, each with its own language, directories and legal requirements for a business website. What they share is GDPR, and customers who expect it to be respected.

Our office is in Amritsar, India, and we work with businesses in Europe entirely online, at the same one-time prices as everywhere else.

How local search works in Europe

Customers search in their own language, and local results favour businesses that describe themselves in it. A plumber in Munich needs to be found for German searches, one in Lyon for French. Keyword research has to be done in the language of the customer, not translated from English.

Tourist areas add a second layer, where visitors search in English or another language for restaurants, tours and services. A business serving both locals and visitors may need both.

Directory habits are national. The yellow-pages descendants are still used in several countries, and trust marks and review platforms differ from one country to the next.

Citations, addresses and rules in Europe

Listings and directories worth having

  • Google Business Profile, Apple Maps and Bing Places in every country
  • Germany: Gelbe Seiten and Das Örtliche
  • France: PagesJaunes
  • Spain: Páginas Amarillas
  • Italy: PagineGialle
  • Trustpilot, which is widely used across northern Europe

Accuracy matters more than volume. A dozen correct listings do more than hundreds of automated ones. See how local citations work.

Name, address and phone format

Follow the national address format, including the postcode position and house number order, which differ between countries. Write the phone number in international format with the country code. Keep accented characters consistent: decide between Müller and Mueller and use one everywhere.

Rules to be aware of

GDPR applies throughout the EU: enquiry forms need a stated purpose, and non-essential cookies need consent before they load. Several countries require a legal notice on business websites, such as the Impressum in Germany and Austria, listing the operator’s name, address and registration. VAT numbers are normally displayed. Requirements differ by country, so confirm yours.

This is general information, not legal advice. Check the rules that apply to your business.

Local SEO in Europe: common questions

Do you build websites in languages other than English?

Tell us when you request the audit which language your customers search in, so we can confirm how the content will be handled before work starts.

Do you add an Impressum or legal notice?

We include the page and structure for it. You supply the legal details, because they must be accurate and are your responsibility as the operator.

Are your forms and cookies GDPR compliant?

We build enquiry forms with a stated purpose and keep tracking to a minimum. If you add analytics or advertising tags, a consent banner is needed and we can set the site up to accommodate one.
