Local SEO Services in Australia

Australians search by suburb. Not by city, not by region: by suburb. That one habit shapes how a local business in Australia should set up its profile, its service areas and its website.

Our office is in Amritsar, India, and we work with businesses in Australia entirely online, at the same one-time prices as everywhere else.

How local search works in Australia

A customer in Sydney does not search for a plumber in Sydney. They search for a plumber in Parramatta, Bondi or Chatswood. Suburb-level relevance is everything, and businesses that name the suburbs they serve, accurately, do better.

The vocabulary is local: tradies, sparkies and chippies in conversation, though people usually type the formal trade. Add to that real estate agents, solicitors, a mechanic, a roadworthy or pink slip depending on the state. Spelling is British (“optimisation”, “tyres”).

Trade platforms are widely used for quotes, so many customers will have seen you on one before they find your own site.

Citations, addresses and rules in Australia

Listings and directories worth having

  • Google Business Profile, Apple Maps and Bing Places
  • Yellow Pages Australia, True Local and Localsearch
  • hipages and Oneflare for trades
  • Facebook, which is heavily used for local recommendations
  • ProductReview.com.au where customers review your category

Accuracy matters more than volume. A dozen correct listings do more than hundreds of automated ones. See how local citations work.

Name, address and phone format

Include the suburb, state abbreviation and four-digit postcode, and write phone numbers in one format, such as 02 XXXX XXXX or 04XX XXX XXX. Display your ABN on the website. Licensed trades should show the licence number their state requires.

Rules to be aware of

The Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles apply to many businesses that collect personal information. Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading claims and fake or incentivised reviews, and the ACCC actively enforces it. Health practitioners advertising regulated services must follow AHPRA rules, which restrict the use of testimonials.

This is general information, not legal advice. Check the rules that apply to your business.

Local SEO in Australia: common questions

How do you handle suburb targeting for Australian businesses?

We set realistic service areas on the profile and, where it is justified, build pages for your main suburbs with content specific to each. We do not mass-produce identical suburb pages.

Which Australian directories matter most?

Google Business Profile, Apple Maps and Bing Places first, then Yellow Pages, True Local and Localsearch, plus hipages or Oneflare for trades.

Can health practitioners in Australia use reviews in marketing?

AHPRA restricts testimonials in advertising regulated health services. Reviews on your Google profile are treated differently from testimonials you publish yourself, but you should check the current AHPRA guidance.
